Value of Humor

Include laughter and fun in all you do...it’s healthy!

Good morning. This is Dr. Joe Cincotta. Did you realize that laughter and humor are good for your health? All too often we tend to focus on the beneficial health habits of diet, exercise, and avoidance of tobacco and excessive alcohol and neglect the value of laughter. We forget that simply having fun and laughing helps improve our health. They lower our blood pressure, release helpful chemicals in our bodies, and relax our minds and bodies. Humor sprinkled into our daily activities can help us all. We even need to laugh at ourselves and our own mishaps. My children are a help to me here, and I am sure that every parent can identify with this. They are all too willing to point out some of my misadventures and shortcomings. It is also useful to bring humor and laughter into the workplace. For those who are workplace leaders it can help you with your employee relationships and even improve employee satisfaction and productivity. Even in times of sadness we tend to gravitate to memories of fun and laughter as we deal with our grief. So, this week as you are being mindful of your health, be sure that laughter and fun are part of your activities. Thank you.
